Caitlin Clark walked into her new home arena with No. 22 shirts and jerseys peppered from floor to ceiling. A late-arriving but still louder-than-usual crowd roared during her first official introduction to Fever fans on Thursday night. And when the former Iowa star made the layup for her first basket with 7:00 left in the first quarter, the applause grew. It was even louder when she completed a three-point play a few minutes later. Clark spent Wednesday working out with her Indiana Fever teammates inside an empty Gainbridge Fieldhouse. It's a moment Fever fans have dreaming about since they won the lottery in December and that only became reality in mid-April.

Rory McIlroy hoped that his victory with Shane Lowry two weeks ago in the Zurich Classic team event would serve as a springboard for the remainder of the season. He's off to a good start. McIlroy positioned himself for a run at a record fourth Wells Fargo Championship title Thursday, opening with a 4-under 67 that left him three shots behind leader Xander Schauffele. Collin Morikawa and Alex Noren also shot 67, and Justin Thomas topped the group at 68. Quail Hollow is one of McIlroy's favorite courses, and with good reason after victories in 2010, '15 and '21.

Now they get to play Game 3 at home in front of a raucous fan base celebrating the franchise's advancement past the first round for just the second time ever. The New York Knicks also have a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Indiana Pacers. They'll go on the road to face a Pacers team that has been outrebounded 84-66 and frustrated by the officiating.

The New Orleans Saints have signed their first-round draft choice, tackle Taliese Fuaga, to a four-year deal. The club announced the agreement a day before Friday's opening of the Saints' three-day rookie camp. The 6-foot-6, 324-pound Fuaga's prospects for playing are high because Andrus Peat left in free agency after finishing last season as one of New Orleans' starting tackles. Meanwhile starting right tackle Ryan Ramczyk's ability to return to form following offseason knee surgery is uncertain. Fuaga started all 12 games at right tackle in 2023 for Oregon State and he was selected first-team All-Pac-12 last season. Fuaga was drafted 14th overall and was the fourth offensive tackle drafted.

Nelly Korda is going to have some work to do if she wants to win a record sixth straight LPGA tournament, especially the way Rose Zhang is playing. Korda shot a relatively mistake-free 3-under 69 early in the first round of the Cognizant Founders Cup on Thursday and then could only watch as the 20-year-old Zhang posted a tournament record-tying  63 in the afternoon to take the lead. In her winning streak, Korda has never trailed by more than eight strokes after the opening round. The 25-year-old is six back heading into the second round at the Upper Montclair Country Club.

Padraig Harrington and Chris DiMarco shared the lead Thursday at the Regions Tradition when the already rain-delayed first round was suspended because of lightning in the area. The first round was scheduled to be completed Friday morning. Both Harrington and DiMarco were 7 under through 13 holes in the first of five PGA Tour Champions majors this season. The round started more than three hours late because of heavy rain at Greystone. Two-time defending champion Steve Stricker finished the 11th at 3 under. Stricker is going for his fourth Regions Tradition win in the past five.

OG Anunoby won't play for the New York Knicks in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals Friday night because of a strained left hamstring. Jalen Brunson is questionable with his sore right foot. Brunson returned from his injury after missing the second quarter to lead the Knicks to a 130-121 victory Wednesday for a 2-0 lead over the Indiana Pacers. But Anunoby was hurt in the second half after scoring a career playoff-high 28 points, leaving the Knicks' injury-depleted frontcourt without yet another starter. The forward limped off the court holding the back of his leg. The Knicks are 26-5 this season with Anunoby in the lineup.

Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back Jimmy Johnson, a three-time All-Pro and member of the All-Decade Team of the 1970s, has died. He was 86. Johnson's family told the Pro Football Hall of Fame that he died Wednesday night. Johnson was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1994. He played his entire 16-year pro career with San Francisco. He played in 213 games, more than any other 49ers player at the time of his retirement.

The Los Angeles Rams have traded receiver Ben Skowronek to the Houston Texans in a swap of late-round draft picks. Houston got Skowronek and a seventh-round pick in 2026 for a sixth-round pick in 2026. Skowronek was a seventh-round draft choice from Notre Dame who played his way into a significant role on offense and special teams during his three seasons with the Rams. He notably had two catches for 12 yards as a rookie in the Rams' Super Bowl victory while playing 46 snaps on offense after Odell Beckham Jr.'s injury.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without center Jarrett Allen for Game 2 against the Boston Celtics on Thursday as he continues to deal with bruised ribs. Allen is missing his fifth consecutive game. Tennessee State has hired seven-time WNBA All-Star Candice Dupree as the Tigers' new women's basketball coach. Athletic director Mikki Allen announced the move Thursday. Dupree is the program's 13th coach all-time. Dupree played 16 seasons in the WNBA as the sixth overall pick in the 2006 draft out of Temple. She played for Chicago, Phoenix, Indiana, Seattle and Atlanta in her career. Dupree then took part in the NBA's assistant coach program before working with San Antonio as a player development assistant. She says it's an honor to be entrusted with upholding TSU's tradition while embracing an evolving sports landscape.

The WNBA announced it will use league-wide charter flights on a full-time basis for the first time this season. The charters will begin at the start of the regular season. Commissioner Cathy Engelbert says the league has been working to build a model that will support charter flights for the long term. Players have said using charter flights would address years of safety concerns. It means no more long security lines, bodyguards in public spaces, cramped legroom or layovers for the professional athletes who have been lobbying for better travel long before Caitlin Clark brought increased interest to the league.

President Joe Biden has welcomed the reigning WNBA champions, the Las Vegas Aces, to the White House, celebrating what he called a "banner year" for women's basketball. Bayer Leverkusen had a double reason to celebrate. Not only did it reach the Europa League final and keep its treble bid on course but Josip Stanišić's late goal preserved its remarkable unbeaten record as Leverkusen rescued a 2-2 draw against Roma. Both had seemed at risk during the semifinal second leg after two Leandro Paredes penalties had made it 2-0 on the night and 2-2 on aggregate. But an own goal by Roma defender Gianluca Mancini eight minutes from time and Stanišić's equalizer saw Leverkusen stretch its unbeaten streak to 49 matches. Leverkusen advanced 4-2 on aggregate and will face another Italian team on May 22 in Dublin after Atalanta beat Marseille 3-0 to advance 4-1 on aggregate.
