France's sports minister has called for soccer club Monaco to be sanctioned after one of its players covered over an anti-homophobia message on the team's shirt during the team's final league game on Sunday. The French league staged its annual campaign against discrimination during this weekend's final round with each team wearing a badge featuring the word "homophobia" crossed out. However, Monaco midfielder Mohamed Camara taped over the badge during his team's 4-0 win over Nantes, and also skipped the pre-match group photo where all players stood before a banner with the same message. The team lost 4-2 at home to Fulham on the final day of the season and joins Sheffield United and Burnley in going down to the second-tier Championship. Luton needed to beat Fulham and for Nottingham Forest, which began the day in fourth-to-last place, to lose at Burnley. There also needed to be a 12-goal swing in goal difference in Luton's favor. Forest won 2-1. It means all three teams who were promoted have been relegated immediately. Last season all three promoted teams staved off relegation for the first time since 2018.

The Premier League has never seen so many goals in a single season. Jarell Quansah's strike for Liverpool against Wolverhampton at Anfield took the number of goals scored in England's top flight this campaign to 1,223. That's a record. There are various factors that could be behind the increase in goals this season. They include longer games because of more stoppage time, more attack-minded coaches and the weakness of the promoted teams. The previous record of 1,222 goals in a season came in the inaugural 1992-93 Premier League campaign when there were 22 teams in the division. The final goals total this season was 1,246.
