A Kentucky court is postponing pro golfer Scottie Scheffler's appearance on charges he injured a police officer and disobeyed commands during the PGA Championship. Scheffler was handcuffed and taken to jail outside the Valhalla Golf Club on Friday. He was due in court Tuesday, two days after finishing in the top ten. Now a judge is postponing the court date until June 3. Scheffler faces four charges, including felony assault over injuries a Louisville police officer suffered. Scheffler's attorney, Steve Romines, says the situation is a misunderstanding and the golfer never disobeyed any officer's orders.

Xander Schauffele made one putt that turned out to mean so much. His 6-foot birdie on the final hole gave him a one-shot victory over Bryson DeChambeau in the PGA Championship. He quieted whispers about whether he could close. He showed he could stand up to the best of them after having lost to Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy in two previous chances. Schauffele doesn't even remember the way the winning putt swirled into the cup. He's now the No. 2 player in the world. And he doesn't have to answer questions whether he can win. This was the big one.

Nelly Korda won a back-nine showdown with Hannah Green of Australia with a par on the 18th hole to capture the Mizuho Americas Open by a stroke for her sixth win in seven starts on the LPGA Tour this year. The victory Sunday made the 25-year-old Korda the first player since Inbee Park (2013) to record six wins in a single season. Korda also bounced back from seeing her record-tying five-tournament winning streak snapped last week by Rose Zhang at the Cognizant Founders Cup. Zhang withdrew Thursday after three holes with an intestinal issue.

either for the 30-year-old from California who broke through for his first major championship, or for the divided sport he plays. But there's no doubt that both Schauffele and the game delivered at the PGA Championship. Schauffele's scramble for a 72nd-hole birdie at Valhalla helped him set the major-championship scoring record at 21 under. It edged out DeChambeau by a shot to bring to a close a thrilling week in the year's second major.

Xander Schauffele has won his first major with a thrilling win at the PGA Championship. Schauffele made a 6-foot birdie putt on the last hole at Valhalla for a one-shot victory over Bryson DeChambeau. Schauffele set a major championship scoring record in the process. The Olympic gold medalist now has something even more valuable in silver. He gets to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy. Schauffele finished at 21-under 263, breaking by one shot the major record. Schauffele is the first player since Phil Mickelson in 2005 to birdie the last hole of the PGA Championship to win by one.

Collin Morikawa's lone mistake in the PGA Championship's final round came late, and his title prospects were pretty much done by then. After starting Sunday's final round tied with Xander Schauffele for the lead at 15-under, Morikawa could only muster a string of pars as other contenders posted birdies and lower scores at Valhalla Golf Club. He finally birdied 18 to finish at even par 71 and tie for fourth with Thomas Detry. It was his second consecutive top-four finish in a major after tying for third at the Masters.

Scottie Scheffler finished off what he called a "hectic" week at the PGA Championship by surging to an eighth-place finish. The world's top-ranked golfer shot a 6-under 65 to finish at 13 under for the tournament. The round came two days after Scheffler spent time in a Louisville jail following his arrest on charges stemming from a traffic incident. Scheffler is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. The 27-year-old Texan says he's not sure what's in store on the legal front in the near future and he's mostly focused on getting home to his wife and newborn son.

Thomas Detry earned his first trip to the Masters with a solid finish at the PGA Championship. Detry tied for fourth following a four-under 66 capped by a 12-foot birdie putt on the 18th. Dean Burmester's tie for 12th at 12 under locked up a spot in next year's PGA at Quail Hollow. The performance also validated the PGA of America's decision to extend an invitation to Burmester, a LIV Tour regular who entered the PGA ranked 133rd in the world.

Nelly Korda shot 7-under 65 Saturday and will take a two-stroke lead over Hannah Green into the final round of the Mizuho Americas Open in a bid to win for the sixth time in her last seven events on the LPGA Tour. After seeing Rose Zhang snap her tour record-tying five tournament winning streak in the Cognizant Founders Cup last week, the top-ranked Korda has gotten better every round in posting a 13-under 203 total on Liberty National. Green shot a 63 early Saturday, the best round in the two-year history of the tournament.

Collin Morikawa went to sleep with a share of the lead at the PGA Championship. He's well-aware that by the time he reaches the first tee box for the final round, he might not have it anymore. A low-scoring third round left a record 15 players at double-digits under par and within five shots of Morikawa and Xander Schauffele heading into the finale at Valhalla Golf Club, which has mostly been soft, still and defenseless all week. Among the many with a chance to overtake Morikawa before he hits his first shot are Sahith Theegala, who is one shot out of the lead. Shane Lowry, who shot 62, will start the day two shots behind.

Shane Lowry tied a major championship record by firing a 9-under 62 in the third round of the PGA Championship. The 37-year-old Irishman recorded nine birdies without a bogey at a very gettable Valhalla to match the lowest round ever in any of the four major tournaments. Four players had previously posted a 62 across the PGA, Masters, British Open and U.S. Open, the latest by Xander Schauffele in the opening round on Thursday. Just over 48 hours later Lowry matched it to thrust himself into contention for his second major title.

Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are tied for the lead at the PGA Championship going into the final round and they have a lot of company. Low scoring at Valhalla allows for that. Shane Lowry had the second 62 this week. That ties a major championship record. Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland are within two shots. Fifteen players are separated by five shots. Missing was Scottie Scheffler. He faded early and never recovered. His 73 ends 42 consecutive rounds at par or better. And now he's nine shots behind. Schauffele and Morikawa lead Sahith Theegala by one.

Justin Rose had a pretty good seat while playing partner Shane Lowry went super low in the third round of the PGA Championship. Rose nearly matched Lowry shot for shot. While Lowry tied a record with a 9-under 62, Rose posted a 7-under 64 to get to 12-under for the tournament and three back of co-leaders Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele heading into the final round at Valhalla. Rose's lone major win came at the 2013 U.S. Open, though he has finished in the top 10 at the PGA five times since 2015.

Scottie Scheffler arrived at the golf course in plenty of time. Once he got there, nothing really worked. A day after he powered through his odyssey to the jailhouse, then back to the course just in time to get to the opening tee box, Scheffler enjoyed a more regular schedule but struggled to keep things together at the PGA Championship. He shot 2-over 73 in the third round to finish at 7 under for the tournament and drop from fourth to a tie for 24th. It snapped a string of 42 straight rounds of par or better.

The world's top-ranked golfer played in the second round of the PGA Championship just hours after being arrested following a traffic incident. Scheffler was detained by police in the predawn hours outside Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. Police say Scheffler illegally tried to get by the scene of an accident where a pedestrian was killed. He was placed in handcuffs and charged with multiple counts, including second-degree assault of an officer who police say was dragged by Scheffler's car. Scheffler was released and returned to the course in time to begin his round as scheduled. The sequence was jarring to the 27-year-old, who has cultivated an image as a wholesome family man since rising to stardom after winning the 2022 Masters.

The only quibble about Scottie Scheffler's recent domination on the golf scene was that perhaps he was too normal and maybe not quite exciting enough to capture the attention of millions on a week-in, week-out basis. For nine gripping hours on Day 2 of a PGA Championship that began with Scheffler in a jail cell and ended with his name near the top of the leaderboard, the world's best player turned in a reality-TV performance more riveting than any Netflix miniseries or episode of "Law & Order." Scheffler heads into the weekend only three shots out of the lead. How he recovers from one of the strangest days of his life will dictate how the next two days go at Valhalla.
