Sam Penrod ReportingKevin Bardsley, the father of missing boy scout Garrett Bardsley who was lost in the High Uintas last summer, today announced plans for what he says will be the last organized search in an attempt to find his son's remains.
Kevin Bardsley: "God willing, we'll find him and bring him home. If not, we'll know where he isn't."
It has been eleven months now, since Garrett disappeared in the Uintas. His family has been waiting since last fall to resume the search, for when the snow melted enough. And today they say that final organized search will happen for three days, during the first week of August.
When Garrett Bardsley was reported lost, hundreds of people volunteered and searched for two weeks, hoping he would be found. When hope was lost of finding him alive, the search continued, until early October, when the snow covered the area where he disappeared. Now his family says they want to try one more time, to find their son.
Kevin Bardsley: "That's the only way we think we will find him, is if God opens the way and shows us where he is, because we know how kids are, he could be way out of the box of what statistics show."
Heidi Bardsley: "We hope we'll find him and we have to prepare ourselves if we don't. It's going to be a hard trip home if we don't."
The search is planned for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 4th, 5th and 6th. It will be the same area where Garrett was lost; some areas will be re-searched, while searchers will also be sent to new areas.
If you want to get involved, you must pre-regisiter at FindGarrett.org, so they can have food for you and let you know in advance where they'd like you to search. The Bardsleys say they are hoping for hundreds, even thousands of volunteers to search.
