THE FAMILY ROOM — Do you ever have those moments where a random chain of events leads to disaster?
For example, let's say that you cook macaroni and cheese for your toddler. Angry, he has to eat pasta instead of pizza and he throws the bowl across the kitchen. Startled by the noise, your dog jumps on the counter. Your wedding ring is sitting on the edge of the sink because you've just finished doing dishes. Nudged by your frantic dog's paw, the ring drops into the sink and disappears down the drain.
Given their randomness, you simply can't anticipate these types of events. The best you can do is prepare yourself so you don't get too frazzled when they inevitably happen.
This video is a prime example of how unpredictable disaster can be:
Let's break down the series of events. First, a girl is sitting on the couch, playing with a bouncy ball. On a whim, she tosses the ball at her younger brother. The brother decides to retaliate, winding up for an even bigger throwback at his sister.
But the ball doesn't hit his sister. It sails into the kitchen and shatters a light fixture. The girl jumps up, utterly shocked that her little lob has somehow resulted in broken glass. Even though she wasn't the one who made the fateful throw, you can tell from her reaction that she knows she's going to get blamed for it. Such is the nature of a random chain of events.
