BLACKFOOT, Idaho — Officials have released the name of a man who was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds along I-15 earlier this month.

Bingham County Coroner Jimmy Roberts confirms the deceased is Alexander Jose Duran Pirela, 27, from Mapleton, Utah.

The cause of Duran Pirela's death was a homicide from multiple gunshot wounds, Roberts said.

EastIdahoNews.com reached out to the Idaho State Police District 5, which is handling the investigation. Idaho State Police Lt. Todd Orr says that the investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time.

Duran Pierla's body was discovered at about 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 28, according to the Idaho State Police.

Troopers were reportedly traveling northbound on I-15 near milepost 85 when they saw a white 2008 Toyota Camry stopped on the outside shoulder with its hazard lights activated.

The troopers stopped to assist and found the driver deceased from a gunshot wound.

Detectives are still taking tips from the public. Anyone who drove past the Camry, saw any vehicles stopped nearby or witnessed any suspicious activity in the area on Feb. 28 is asked to contact the Idaho State Police at 208-239-9850.
