PROVO — Stadium of Fire has seen many a country music star grace its stage for its Independence Day firework spectacular, but 2025 will be the first time the group Rascal Flatts gets its turn.
The three-member country band was booked to perform at Stadium of Fire in 2020 — before the whole world got turned "Backwards" due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the event was canceled.
Now, the band is emerging from a hiatus and living life on the highway by traveling the country for their "Life is a Highway" 25th anniversary tour. The country stars will finish up their tour with the Stadium of Fire performance on July 4 at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
"I literally could not count how many times over the years I have been asked about Rascal Flatts coming to Stadium of Fire," said Jim Evans, executive director of America's Freedom Festival. "And I have wanted them here, too. Finally, the stars have aligned and they are coming to Provo!"
Everyone better "Bless the Broken Road" and hope construction season in Utah doesn't hinder traffic so "Me and My Gang" can have a grand time singing country songs.
Rascal Flatts is hailed as one of the most influential groups in modern country music history, with 17 No. 1 hits, almost 23.5 million albums sold, 35 million digital downloads, and a whopping 12 billion total lifetime streams, the Freedom Festival said in a release. The band is also one of the most awarded country groups of the past two decades, with more than 40 trophies from various award organizations.

Stadium of Fire has been a staple for many Utah families' Independence Day celebrations. The annual patriotic concert and extravagant fireworks show features hundreds of performers, including a major music artist, and has been happening at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo since 1980.
The concert is presented by America's Freedom Festival, which organizes dozens of patriotic activities for the holiday that more than 500,000 people attend, including a massive parade and the well-loved hot air balloon festival.
Notable past Stadium of Fire performers include the Osmonds, who created Stadium of Fire, the Beach Boys, Kenny Loggins, Kurt Bestor, Natalie Cole, Gladys Knight, Miley Cyrus, Brian Regan, the Jonas Brothers, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Journey, David Archuleta, Tim McGraw, One Republic and Keith Urban.
Last year, the Jonas Brothers performed at Stadium of Fire, but the event's bigger news headline was a firework mishap that injured more than 25 people. Four people were hit directly after a firework malfunctioned, shooting several projectiles onto the field and into the crowd.

But Provo Fire Marshal Lynn Schofield ensures this year will be safe, as the type of fireworks cakes that caused the injuries are no longer available.
Although they have been used at Stadium of Fire in the past, "You will never see a whistle inside of the stadium as long as I am the fire marshal," he promised after the investigation report on the incident was released.
"My Wish" for you is you won't be saying, "What Hurts the Most" is knowing everyone but you got to see Rascal Flatts.
