OREM — A 20-year-old man suspected of killing a person during a fight in Washington state was arrested in Orem this week.
The FBI Safe Streets Violent Crime Task Force arrested Jose Antonio Cedeno-Ponce on Monday with help from the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force and Orem Police Department. Officers encountered Cedeno-Ponce at an unidentified business in Utah County and took him into custody without incident, an FBI release says.
Cedeno-Ponce has been charged in Superior Court of Washington for King County with second-degree murder, according to a statement from the FBI's Salt Lake City office.
On Jan. 10, Cedeno-Ponce drove to a location in Tukwila, Washington to "engage in a fight with high schoolers and armed himself with a knife before anyone approached him," the FBI said. During the fight, he allegedly struck and killed the victim and fled the state, abandoning his vehicle in Idaho.
"Task forces allow law enforcement to seamlessly work together with the shared goal of keeping our communities safe," said Special Agent in Charge Mehtab Syed of the Salt Lake City FBI. "It's important that the defendant face the serious charges brought against him."
Cedeno-Ponce is being held at the Utah County Jail while awaiting extradition to Washington.
