SANDY — Salt Lake Valley residents will soon have a new dining option available to them after McAlister's Deli on Monday announced that the company is opening a location in Sandy.
Born in Oxford, Mississippi, in 1989 and now based out of Atlanta, the fast-casual chain has 567 locations in the U.S., but its newest location will mark the company's first venture into Utah.
McAlister's features a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, soups, loaded baked potatoes and, in true Southern fashion, sweet tea.
"As active members of the local community, we are so excited to bring McAlister's signature Southern hospitality and great food to the valley," franchisee Callie Oppedisano said in a statement.

The Sandy restaurant will be located at 7810 S. 1300 East and officially open for business on Monday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Before that, though, McAlister's will open its doors for a "community heroes" lunch dedicated to first responders, medical professionals, active military personnel, veterans, teachers and truck drivers, with a valid ID badge, on Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Additionally, the first 100 people in line when the restaurant opens next week will recieve their choice of free tea or free club sandwiches for a year.
The Beehive State continues to be an attractive option for quick-serve and fast-casual restaurants.
Yampa Sandwich Company, a fast-casual sandwich shop based in Denver, recently announced plans to open four to six new locations in the Salt Lake City market. It is part of a larger plan to open as many as 40 new locations across the Southwest.
