  • The event features live music, UTA swag and a social media contest.

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Transit Authority is celebrating with commuters by turning the TRAX Red Line into the Heart Line and hosting a Valentine's Day event on Friday and Saturday between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Love Train is a special Valentine's Day-themed ride on the TRAX Red Line that departs from Courthouse Station at 5:32 p.m. and heads southwest, arriving at Daybreak Parkway at 6:15 p.m., and then goes back to Courthouse Station, ending the event by 7:09 p.m. Throughout the event, riders will hear live music from local musician Alli Brown and have the chance to receive UTA swag. The train will still make all its usual stops between the beginning and end of the line.

This event comes as part of UTA's Fun in Transit initiative, a program that promotes events throughout the year, such as a Halloween Bus-tume Bash and a year-round Art Crawl.

"It's a way that we like to have a little fun on transit and enhance the rider's overall public transportation experience with fun, engaging, entertaining events," said Gavin Gustafson, UTA senior public information officer.

According to Gustafson, UTA will also hold a contest on social media for followers to win a larger prize over Valentine's Day weekend.

Riders can post a picture of themselves using any form of Utah transit to get to their date location on Instagram or Facebook, use #RideWithLoveUTA and tag @RideUTA between Feb. 14 and Feb. 17 to enter the contest. The winners will receive a date package that includes a two-day pass to Solitude Mountain Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

With the forecast calling for heavy snowfall through the weekend, Gustafson recommends that those needing to travel use public transit to avoid safety concerns on the road.

"The weather's going to be rough; roads are going to be slick," he said. "Trains don't have any problem in the snow. So if you want to (go out), ride the train; don't drive on the icy roads. We'll get you there in one piece easily."
