BERTHOUD, Colo. — If you don't love today's frigid forecast, here's a reminder that beauty can be found in the harshness of winter.

A family in northern Colorado faced an upcoming storm and below-zero temperatures last month by preparing soap bubbles to place outside. This video shows the stunning result as ice crystals formed in the homemade snow globes.

The post's author made a few different bubble solutions and chilled them overnight. The next morning, they stepped onto the back patio in minus 4-degree weather and created the amazing site — while the kids watched from inside, of course.

"We loved seeing how different solutions would create unique crystal patterns and how some solutions held stronger to withstand the breeze," the post says.

Commenters called the ice crystals "beautiful," "stunning" and absolutely "amazing."

Popular Science explains the innermost layer of the bubble "freezes at warmer temperatures than soapy water — turning to ice" within the bubble. It says all you need to make these frozen wonders is very, very cold temperatures, a few ingredients and patience, as they pop easily.
