PROVO — Provo fire investigators are working to piece together a puzzle and learn exactly what started a fire that destroyed three buildings.

The fire broke out early Saturday at 1640 S. State Street.

Lynn Schofield, Provo's fire marshall, said they are weeding through videos and photos that were sent in as well as security camera footage. And the process could take months.

"Right now, everything's on the table," said Schofield.

The fire started early Saturday morning, Schofield said, and quickly spread to the other two buildings.

The buildings that burned were not far along in their construction.

Schofield said a task force is combining resources in its focus to figure out what happened.

"We completed the on-scene portion of the investigation yesterday, where we actually dig down looking for different kinds of evidence that the building would still show you," said Schofield.

He said the group asked the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to join them yesterday.

Schofield said while there were no injuries, the total loss from the fire is near $4.5 million.

He encourages anyone who may know something to come forward.

"If anybody knows anything. Certainly, if you call that tip line, this one's going to be one where somebody saw something. Or we pick something up on a video," said Schofield.

Those with information about the fire can call Provo police at 801-852-6268.
