ST. GEORGE — A defendant with a decade of convictions appeared for sentencing on six cases of theft and deception charges for defrauding residents across southern Utah.

The defendant, Shandon Gale Young, 44, of Hurricane, appeared Jan. 14 for what was scheduled to be a plea hearing at 5th District Court in St. George.

During the hearing, the defendant pleaded guilty to eight charges filed in six separate cases that include three second-degree felony charges of theft-extortion, pattern of criminal activity and intentional financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

He also pleaded guilty to four third-degree felony counts of theft by deception and one misdemeanor bad check charge.
