LAYTON — A man was found dead after barricading himself inside his Layton apartment Thursday and firing shots, police said.
Layton police responded to the Seasons of Layton apartment complex, 2111 N. Hill Field Road, after a woman called to report a dispute and shots fired by her husband.
Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said he wasn't sure if the shots were fired at the woman and did not say how many shots were fired. She was eventually able to get out of the building, and the complex was fully evacuated.

The situation also caused three nearby schools — North Ridge High School, North Layton Junior High School and Lincoln Elementary — to go under "secure" protocol, which means outside doors were locked. This lasted from 12:45 p.m. to shortly after 2 p.m.
No shots were fired by law enforcement during the incident, and the area has been reopened, police said
