OREM — Cedar Valley head coach Christian Adkinson knew what he had in his group of senior cheerleaders, the girls who had been with the program for four years and boys for two.

From the 6 a.m. practices to Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings, the Aviators' coed cheer squad set out to be the best in the sixth-year school's history.

On Friday night, they proved it.

Cedar Valley swept all three categories to clinch its first 5A state cheer coed championship since the Utah High School Activities Association sanctioned the sport in 2023, and Salem Hills continued its run with a third straight all-girls title at the UCCU Center at Utah Valley University.

"They set the tone in practice," Adkinson said of his 18 seniors that numbered roughly half the squad. "It's all them. They put in all the work, they set the tone, and everybody works hard because of their leadership. It's all because of these seniors.

"We're in the gym a lot. They work really hard."

Cedar Valley placed first in sideline/timeout dance, sideline/timeout cheer and show to hold off second-place Hunter for its first state title in program history. Northridge, Bonneville and Skyline rounded out the top five in the coed division.

Salem Hills also swept all three categories, while Woods Cross edged Olympus for second in the all-girls division. Spanish Fork and Bountiful rounded out the top five.
