PARK CITY — A nanny who has been in Utah for only a month is accused of severely abusing a 6-week-old boy.
Lindsay E. Johnson, 32, was charged Monday in Utah's 3rd District Court in Summit County with five counts of aggravated child abuse, a second-degree felony.
On Friday, an infant was admitted to Primary Children's Hospital "for brain injuries that physicians had ruled nonaccidental trauma," according to charging documents. Doctors noted the child had been at the hospital six days earlier for a checkup and was fine.
In addition to bleeding in the brain, "the child also had two broken ribs and broken femurs," the charges state.
The Summit County Sheriff's Office determined that the boy's nanny, Johnson, had care of him from Thursday night through Friday morning. That morning, while the parents were watching their son, he went into a seizure, according to charging documents.
Prosecutors have requested Johnson not be allowed to post bail pending trial, noting that she has only been in the state since the beginning of November and may flee to Vermont if released.
