WILLARD, Box Elder County — Troopers have identified a husband and wife who were killed in a crash on I-15 in Box Elder County last week.

Angela Hester, 41, died on impact, and her husband Michael Hester, 35, died the next day at a hospital, the Utah Highway Patrol said. They were from Washington state. Their city of residence has not been released.

The two were driving a Toyota Prius south on I-15 at about 10 p.m. on Nov. 26 when the car hit a concrete barrier on the left shoulder and came to rest sideways in the roadway south of Willard, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The initial crash was "likely due to weather and roadway conditions."

The man, who had been driving, got out of the car while the woman opened her door but stayed inside the car, UHP reported. A Ford Expedition on I-15 then hit the man and the Prius head-on, on the front passenger side, where the woman had been sitting, killing her on impact and critically injuring the man.

The occupants of the Expedition were not injured in the crash, UHP says.
