SCOFIELD, Carbon County — A woman was killed Tuesday in a fatal head-on crash that closed both directions of state Route 96, about six miles north of Scofield Reservoir.
The accident happened just before 2 p.m. according to the Utah Division of Transportation traffic website. A semitruck was heading east and struck a pickup truck traveling in the opposition direction at mile marker 17, north of the reservoir, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden.
"The driver of the pickup lost control on ice-covered roads and veered into the eastbound lane, hitting the semi head-on," he said.
Scarleth Ramnarine, 54, of West Jordan, was a passenger in the pickup truck and died on impact, according to police.
A friend remembered her in a Facebook post as "an exceptional woman, diligent worker and loyal friend."
The driver of the pickup had injuries that were not life-threatening, Roden said, and was transported to a hospital. The driver of the semi was also taken to a hospital in a private vehicle, though no information was given about the severity of the injuries.
The crash closed both directions of travel for several hours.
