AROUND THE SHIELD — Atlanta Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell collected his first interception in three years in the Falcons' 38-20 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Clark Phillips III had a chance at his first career pick six with an interception of his own Sunday, but the former University of Utah cornerback opted to pass — or, more accurately, to take a knee.

Former BYU running back Tyler Allgeier ran for 105 yards and a touchdown, and Phillips' interception with 1:55 remaining helped seal an 18-point win over the Panthers to improve to 4-2 on the season.

When Phillips pulled down the pick, he had nothing but green grass in front of him to the end zone. But the former Utah star knew the moment and slid inside the 5-yard line to allow the Falcons to run out the clock.

"He's smart," Terrell said of Phillips. "I told him, I wouldn't even have thought that. As soon as I get the ball, you get a free touchdown. But that's definitely a heads up play for him, to fall down and let the offense go back on the field and close the game out."

Allgeier and running back Bijan Robinson combined for 200 yards and three touchdowns, becoming the first Falcons duo to gain over 100 yards from scrimmage each since Michael Vick and Jerious Norwood did it in October 2006.

"(We) just kept hitting 'em, hitting 'em, hitting 'em," Allgeier said after the game, "and we just slowly started to weather them down."
