CEDAR CITY — Emergency crews extinguished a blaze that burned near the airport in Cedar City on Thursday.
Cedar City police said two firefighters and one civilian were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries, but they are all stable. The extent of their injuries was not released.
The "wildland fire" first broke out around 1:45 p.m. west of Airport Road on 850 North, Cedar City police said. The fire was "quickly spreading" across the ground and threatened multiple businesses.
Iron County Emergency Manager George Colson said the fire started outside the Insituform factory, which uses chemicals, causing officials concern. The fire did not make it inside the factory, but there were hardened chemicals outside that the fire burned.
Some nearby businesses were evacuated due to the fire risk, and five commercial buildings were damaged.
By 5:15 p.m., the blaze was extinguished.
Utah Fire Info said there was an estimated 3 acres involved in the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
