ST. GEORGE — It's more than just a smoke show — this St. George barbecue joint just blazed its way into the Top 10 of a prestigious barbecue ranking with its Texas-style flair and bold flavors.
"It's been a whirlwind," said Pica Rica BBQ owner Jason Neeley. "Just since yesterday, I probably have 250 text messages and 150 DMs just from people nationally saying 'congratulations,' even people I've looked up to for a long time."
When St. George News last spoke with Neeley in July 2023, he had just opened Pica Rica BBQ, a central Texas barbecue joint with infusions of Mexico that was growing in popularity.
Just over a year later, Texas Monthly unveiled its list of the best Texas-style BBQ spots beyond the Lone Star State, and Pica Rica BBQ snagged the No. 7 spot.
Neeley described Texas Monthly Editor Daniel Vaughn as the foremost authority on Texas BBQ. Every three years, he publishes a Top 50 list highlighting the best barbecue restaurants throughout the state.
