OREM — A man was arrested Thursday after police say he became aggressive with officers because he was upset the power was out at his residence. Police say they then discovered drugs, cash and weapons in his home.
The unusual incident happened Thursday evening near 1100 West and 500 North in Orem. Police were investigating a car that had crashed into a power pole, knocking out power to nearby residents.
While investigating the crash, officers were informed Justin Wilkinson, 37, "was becoming increasingly aggressive" because he "was mad about his power being out" and "grew even more aggressive due to him being angry about the food he just purchased spoiling," according to a police booking affidavit.
While being disorderly with police, a woman approached Wilkinson and tried to lead him back into their house. But witnesses told officers he either pushed or slapped the woman, according to the affidavit. Because of that, officers went to the residence to check on the couple for possible domestic violence.
"When the front door of the home opened, officers observed the strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the home," the affidavit alleges.
Due to the circumstances, police obtained a search warrant for the residence.
"During the search of the home, officers found marijuana, THC dab, psylocibin mushrooms, methamphetamine, suboxone and various prescribed medications outside of their prescribed containers," according to the affidavit.
Additionally, police reported finding nearly $12,500 in cash, ammunition and a compound bow with arrows. Because of Wilkinson's past felony convictions, he is not allowed to possess weapons.
Investigators next searched a motorhome parked on the property.
"In total, officers found an estimated 1 pound of THC dab, 20 pounds of THC vape pens, and several pounds of psilocybin mushrooms. Officers also found user amounts of raw marijuana and methamphetamine," the affidavit says.
Police also noted Wilkinson "is currently under federal investigation for having large amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl pills being delivered via the United States Postal Service to his house."
A package scheduled to be delivered to his residence on Thursday was intercepted by investigators, who reported it contained 7 pounds of meth and 1,000 fentanyl pills.
Wilkinson and his girlfriend, Melinda Marie Bluford, 42, were both booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of multiple drug-related charges.
