MYTON, Duchesne County — One person was critically injured in an oil rig explosion Wednesday.
Crews responded to an oil operation involved in a fire around 7 a.m.
"Fire crews arrived on scene and found a workover rig, a holding tank and oil tank battery with active fire. A total of four fire engines and three fire tenders responded to the fire with a total of 18 firefighters," said Josh Phillips, director of fire and emergency management for Duchesne County.
The fire was extinguished but an oil worker was injured and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Phillips said.
Hollie Brown, a spokeswoman for the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining, said the incident occurred at a "Skoufus" well pad and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
"In talking to the operator, it's really unclear what happened," she said, adding that the well was operated by Uinta Wax Operating.
