TAYLORSVILLE — A pair of arts organizations are hosting a festival on Friday and Saturday aimed at bridging the cultures of the area and showcasing a range of talent.

The Westside CultureFest "is a cultural fusion of Westside artists and performers celebrating their rich heritage through contemporary art forms and performances," said Matt Castillo, director of the Salt Lake County Arts and Culture division. The division and the Utah Arts Alliance are the co-hosts.

The free, family-friendly event goes from 5-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and will be held at the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center at 2525 Taylorsville Blvd. in Taylorsville. Stella Standingbear, a Lakota artist recognized at the 2023 Indigenous Hip-Hop Awards, will perform at 9 p.m. on Friday.

The featured event Saturday will be the Lowrider Custom Car Exhibit and Hop-Off. The Hop-Off starts at 8 p.m.

Numerous other artists and acts are also slated to perform, and there will be food trucks, art activities for kids and more. "The Westside CultureFest is a fun, exciting opportunity to strengthen community bonds and bridge diverse cultures by showcasing emerging, historically underserved artists to a wide audience," reads a news release about the event.

Derek Dyer, executive director of the Utah Arts Alliance, said the event, in its second year, is meant to underscore the "transformative power" of art. "The Westside CultureFest reflects our vision of a world where the arts flourish and inspire meaningful community connections," he said.
