PRICE — One man is dead after being shot by police near Price.

The Utah Department of Public Safety announced Wednesday that the police shooting occurred about 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday.

"Members of the Price Police Department, Helper Police Department, and the Carbon County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a domestic violence incident. An officer-involved shooting occurred involving multiple officers," the department said in a statement.

The deceased person has only been identified as a 31-year-old man. The Utah State Bureau of Investigation will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting. The department said it is committed to transparency but released no other information about the police shooting.

The statement did not say what prompted the shooting, how many shots were fired or how many officers fired or even where the shooting occurred, except "near Price."

"We understand the gravity of this situation and are committed to transparency and thoroughness throughout the investigative process. The safety and well-being of our community and our officers are our highest priorities. We appreciate the public's patience and cooperation as we diligently gather all the facts," the department said.
