ST. GEORGE — The southbound lanes of Interstate 15 are open after two crashes on the Arizona-Nevada state line forced a closure early Tuesday morning.

Bart Graves, spokesman for the Arizona Department of Safety, told St. George News Tuesday there was a "serious collision" just over the border in Nevada at milepost 122 at 2:36 a.m. near Littlefield, Arizona.

Graves said a four-vehicle collision involving three semi-tractors occurred in the traffic backup. He stated a full-size semi-truck failed to stop for traffic and ran into the back of a car-hauler commercial vehicle. He said the upper deck of the car hauler penetrated the cab of the semi-truck, killing the driver instantly. Graves said the Nevada State Police are still investigating the first incident.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety, REACT, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the Arizona Department of Transportation, Beaver Dam Fire and Rescue and Mesquite's police and fire departments assisted with the crashes.
