FILLMORE — A Wyoming man was arrested Wednesday and accused of firing a bullet into the floor of his Utah hotel room, which went into the occupied room below him.
Alexander Charles Skovgard, 26, of Casper, Wyoming, was arrested and charged later in the day in 4th District Court with illegal discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony; carrying a weapon while under the influence, a class B misdemeanor; and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.
Millard County sheriff's deputies were initially called to a Fillmore hotel on a report of a shot being fired. They arrived to find a husband and wife in one of the rooms.
"They showed me to their room where it appeared there was a bullet hole in the ceiling, and the mirror on the wall was broken. The couple stated they heard a gunshot and then saw the debris from the ceiling and mirror while in the bed. The couple seemed very upset and stated they were scared," according to police booking affidavit.
A deputy then went to check the room above the couple's and saw Skovgard initially standing in the doorway and then shutting the door as deputies approached, the affidavit states. A deputy looked into the window and saw Skovgard sitting on a bed with a pistol next to him.
"When Alexander opened the door, I detained him and explained why I was there. Alexander smelled of alcohol, his speech was slurred, and he had a difficult time maintaining his balance. Alexander also could not understand why I was there. I saw a spent casing on the ground and multiple open bottles of alcohol," the affidavit alleges.
Skovgard was placed under arrest a short time later.
