ANN ARBOR, Michigan — A Michigan man with a suspended driver's license recently made sure he attended his scheduled court hearing on time via a Zoom call.
The problem was he did it while driving.
On May 15, Corey Harris made a Zoom call for his court hearing in Washtenaw County, Michigan. Judge J. Cedric Simpson is seen via recording of the court proceeding asking if he is driving and Harris tells him he's pulling into his doctor's office.
"I'm parking right now," Harris said.
But as Harris is parking, the judge appears to be reviewing Harris' case and immediately gets a confused look on his face.
"OK, so maybe I don't understand something. This is driving with a license suspended (case)?" he asks Harris' defense attorney.
"That is correct, your honor …"
"And he was just driving. And he didn't have a license," the judge quickly clarified.
"Those are the charges, yes, your honor," the attorney replied.
"No, I'm looking at his record. He doesn't have a license. He's suspended and he's just driving," a shocked Simpson says.
"That is correct, your honor."
While this conversation is happening, Harris can be seen on Zoom looking concerned as he apparently recognizes his mistake.
Simpson then revoked Harris' bail and ordered him to turn himself in to the Washtenaw County Jail by that night, as an exasperated Harris looks toward the ceiling.
