HERRIMAN — The Corner Canyon Chargers have been at the forefront of boys lacrosse in Utah since its inception, and they don't intend to give up their top spot just yet.
Head coach Aaron Ika acknowledged the rapid growth the sport has seen in the state as he completes his fourth and final year in Draper, calling Friday's 12-11 double overtime win over Davis the most competitive game he's been a part of in his career.
"That one was definitely the one that grayed my hair the most," Ika said. "They battled all year and that's what they're about is just fighting hard. I couldn't be prouder as a coach. Fourth (championship) year in a row in my last game, so it's a heck of a way for them to send me out."
The game started tight with a 3-3 tie early in the first quarter, but Corner Canyon pulled away with a 7-1 run to lead 10-4 in the third quarter. Davis responded with a 7-1 run of their own, however, and tied the game at 11 with 5:40 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The teams remained scoreless for over 10 minutes into a second four-minute sudden death overtime period when Charger freshman Kampton Dutton found the golden goal to make the four-peat official for Corner Canyon.

"When it came down to the second overtime, we were like, 'Okay, we got to dig deep,'" senior Kisen Muramoto said. "We dug deep and then there it was — we got the victory."
The next final is the 4A championship game between Judge Memorial and Skyview at Zions Bank Stadium.
