WEST JORDAN — A West Jordan man was stabbed multiple times by his adult son in their house Monday morning, according to police.
Matthew Todd Radin, 26, was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted murder.
The stabbing occurred at 4855 W. Aerie Hill Drive, West Jordan police officer Ramon Ramirez said.
"While medically treating the victim, medical staff determined he had over a dozen stab and slash wounds. It was determined the victim had eight official stab wounds that were treated with staples and stitches. The victim had one potentially life-threatening penetrating chest wound," doctors who treated the father told police, according to a booking affidavit.
Investigators learned that the son and father have a history of not getting along. On Monday, Radin allegedly told police he was cutting a toothpick with a knife and his father started yelling at him and calling him "stupid," the affidavit states. Radin claimed his father punched him and that started a fight, according to the affidavit.
"Since (Radin) was holding a knife, he started stabbing the victim to get him off him," the affidavit states "(He) said the victim started grabbing him like he was trying to attack him. (Radin) admitted to stabbing the victim multiple times.
"I wanted to just keep going, and I wanted to murder him," Radin allegedly told police. "I stabbed him a bunch of times; I was just thinking my life was over."
When detectives talked to the father, he said he found his son using a kitchen knife to cut wood and then gave him a pocket knife to use instead, according to the affidavit. The father claimed that his son "began cursing at him and yelling at him, so the victim attempted to punch him over the kitchen counter. The victim stated he was unable to punch (Radin), so it ended up being a smack to the right side of (his) face. The victim stated (Radin) then ran around the kitchen counter with the pocket knife and grabbed on to the victim's clothing holding him while stabbing him multiple times in the head," according to the affidavit.
