SOUTH OGDEN — One man died Friday morning in an officer-involved shooting in South Ogden.

South Ogden Police Sgt. David Labbe confirmed the officer-involved shooting early Friday morning at the intersection of Wall Avenue and Riverdale Road, according to KSL TV's Felicia Martinez.

Chief Criminal Deputy Branden B. Miles of the Weber County Attorney's Office announced the man, 42-year-old Frederick Jeremy Atkin, of Ogden, had died from his injuries in a statement late Friday morning.

"There is no further danger to the public," Miles said. "Per protocol, South Ogden has placed the involved officer on paid administrative leave."

He said the Weber County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating and no further information will be released at this time.

Police were pursuing a red Mustang about 1 a.m. when the chase stopped at the intersection. Officers approached the car, and at some point, an officer fired their weapon, police said.

Miles said in his statement that only a single officer fired during the incident.

Atkin was transported to a local hospital after the shooting. He was the only person in the vehicle at the time.

The Mustang remained in the intersection for several hours with what appeared to be a flat or blown out tire.
