PROVO — A 6-year-old girl was killed and two others critically injured when a vehicle drifted off the road, striking a vehicle parked nearby.
An 18-year-old man was driving at 3 p.m. on Center Street near 2900 West when his vehicle drifted off the road and hit a parked car according to Provo police spokesman Joshua Jennings. Three people standing near the parked car were critically injured.
One of the injured, a 6-year-old girl, was taken by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital, where she died from her injuries, police said. The two others — the girl's 5-year-old cousin and 64-year-old grandfather — were taken by ground crews to Utah Valley Hospital and remained in critical condition Sunday morning.
Police believe the driver was drowsy at the time of impact and have ruled out a DUI.
The cousin and grandfather remained hospitalized in critical condition Sunday.
Police have not released the names of the girl and her injured relatives.
