SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah cornerback Eric Rowe shined in his first preseason NFL game with the Philadelphia Eagles against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday.

At the start of the second quarter, Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw a short pass to receiver Phillip Dorsett for a 20-yard gain before Rowe hits Dorsett and strips the ball for a fumble.

Since joining the Eagles Rowe has been used on the outside as a corner, but has since been moved to nickel, according to csnphilly.com. Rowe was moved over after rookie JaCorey Shepherd sustained a season-ending ACL tear last week.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly told csnphilly.com that moving Rowe to nickel was part of the plan the whole time.

"It was the plan all along," Kelly said. "All those guys have to be versatile. If they're not going to end up being the starter, they've got to be able to play everywhere. So that's part of the whole plan.

"In the spring we kept him in one position just to get his feet wet. I thought he did a really nice job competing with (projected starter) Nolan (Carroll) out there. He's taken a lot of Cory's (secondary coach Cory Undlin) repetitions out there, those guys kind of going with the first team sometimes."

Rowe finished the game Sunday with five total tackles and one tackle for loss as they Eagles went on to beat the Colts 36-10.
