The award was given Monday at the annual meeting of the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.

UDOT received the award for its management of the state Route 171/3500 South reconstruction project.

Washington state DOT also received an innovative management award for the Operation I-5 Partnership to Relieve Congestion Project.

"Our states are doing great work in challenging times," said Susan Martinovich, AASHTO president and director of the Nevada DOT. "We are accountable and we are delivering projects on time and under budget. This competition recognizes innovation and ingenuity. We are making a difference."

The awards competition is sponsored by AASHTO, AAA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and recognizes transportation projects in three categories: On Time, Under Budget and Innovative Management.

The transportation departments of Nevada, Texas and Montana earned awards in the On Time category.
