Outlook

Clouds increase this afternoon with some valley rain showers possible this late afternoon and evening. Snow showers move in early Thursday and could persist into the afternoon/evening. Lake enhanced snow showers along with lake effect bands could form in the Salt Lake Valley and Tooele Valley. Current forecast calls for tr-3" of snow across the northern valleys with locally higher from lake effect snow, 2-6" for the benches and Wasatch Back, 6-12" for the northern mountains with 8-18" possible for the Upper Cottonwoods, 4-8" for central and southern mountains, then 0.5"-2" for central and southern valleys. A few mountain showers may linger into Friday morning and there is a low chance for a few lake effect snow showers. High pressure will move back in for the long term forecast with valley inversions accompanying that high pressure. - Matt Johnson, KSL Weather 1.7.26
