WEST VALLEY — Wasatch won six matches in the middle of the weights, capped by Gareth Healey's pin at 182 pounds, to help the Wasps knock off Maple Mountain, 44-24 and claim the inaugural Class 4A state duals championship Thursday at the Maverik Center.

The Golden Eagles, which beat Wasatch in a Region 8 dual in December, split the first four weight classes with the Wasps, and Maple Mountain standout Taylor LaMont's 87-second pin at 132 pounds pulled the favorites from Region 8 within a point.

But Wasatch took the next four matches to seal the victory in a dual that started at 170 pounds. The Wasps' wins included pins from Steven Ballif (138), Nick Piscitelli (152) and Healey (182), to pull away from the defending 4A state champions. Jake Discher (145), CJ Cohen (160) and Ritchie Heywood (170) also won by decision in that span for Wasatch.

Corey Rokovitz (195) and Korbon Tibbals (220) each won for the Maple Mountains. But the damage was done, and a pin by Ben Bos at 285 pounds cemented the inaugural title.

CLASS 5ABrothers Cole Zorn and Kade Zorn each won by pin at 106 and 126 pounds, respectively, to lead the Vikings to a 37-29 over Herriman in the 5A title match.

Pleasant Grove's Alex Young (145), Koy Wilkinson (170) and Maika Tauteoli (182) also earned pins for the Vikings, who got decisions from Derek Fisher (120) and Walker Wolfgramm (285) in the win.

Easton Halliday (113), Logan Jensen (132), Carson Bowdren (138), Jaron Jensen (152), Colton French (160), Shane French (195) and Wade French (220) each won for Herriman.

Jaron Jensen's narrow 5-4 decision over Pleasant Grove senior Ben Anderson, who has committed to Duke, was among the noteworthy results of the night, which saw four teams in each classification survive Thursday's qualifying for a two-round dual tournament in West Valley.
