BOUNTIFUL — In early January, three locals appeared on the Discovery Channel in a new show featuring their unique business.

Not only do Dave Kiley, Dave Sparks and Josh Stuart sell vehicles with diesel motors installed in them, they actually give some away.

At Bountiful-based business DieselSellerz, they "kind of build these off-the-wall extreme 4x4 pickup trucks and other exciting vehicles, all Diesel powered," Kiley, company owner, said.

Kiley said he and Sparks used to buy cars and trucks out of people's yards, fix them up and sell them. The two started making more money doing that than they were at their jobs, so they started doing full-time repairs on trucks and cars.

They laughed at first when someone said of their "pretty gnarly" pickup trucks "Oh, you should give that to me," but then they thought, why not give it away?

They ended up running a sweepstakes and invited people to enter by purchasing a T-shirt.

DieselSellerz gives out about six extreme diesel pickup trucks at random each year. More than half of the recipients have been people who are "really in need," Kiley said, and the winners' reactions include screaming, crying and jumping for joy.

"It's really cool, it's like being … Santa Claus in real life," Kiley said.

Using one of the diesel trucks, Kiley pulled a prank on a friend by blowing a lot of exhaust into the bathroom he was using. Jay Leno ended up seeing the prank and invited them out to his show, where he gifted the victim of the prank with a gas mask equipped with a roll of toilet paper.

That's when Discovery Channel began contacting them. About two years later, Discovery Channel told them they wanted to do a show about them and Diesel Brothers was born.

"...Nothing we ever really tried to make happen, it was Discovery coming to us and saying 'can we do a show on you?' " Kiley said.

Regarding having his own show, Kiley said he gets to do a lot of things he normally wouldn't, like have front-row seats at a lot of events.

The show explains their business model, Kiley said, and is filmed almost exclusively in the Bountiful/Woods Cross area.

According to Discovery Channel, "DIESEL BROTHERS follows the team at DieselSellerz as they trick out trucks, work hard and play harder in the process."

The show premiered Jan. 4 and runs Monday nights at 8 p.m. on DirecTV or 11 p.m. on Comcast.
