LAYTON — A Kaysville man is accused of using multiple social media tools to exchange sexually explicit pictures with a 13-year-old girl.

Jacob Ricks Vodden was charged Nov. 25 in 2nd District Court with eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony; and four counts of dealing in harmful materials to a minor, a third-degree felony.

Between December 2014 and July 2015, starting when Vodden was 20 and continuing when he turned 21, prosecutors say he used several social media applications, "including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, FaceTime, and Kik messaging applications," to message a girl who was 13 and later turned 14, according to charging documents.

Vodden met the teen when she was 10 at a family party, according to court records. The case was investigated by Layton police.

"The statement of the defendant to law enforcement (is) that he engaged in 'trading inappropriate pictures with a minor,'" the charges state.

Prosecutors also found evidence that Vodden exchanged explicit pictures with a second girl who was 17 at the time, according to charging documents.

His initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
