EAGLE MOUNTAIN — Roads were closed Monday morning after a water main break occurred in the area of Pony Express Parkway and Smith Ranch Road, officials said.

The city received reports of water outages in the Raches area around 7:30 a.m., and the water department responded and discovered a break. Crews have been working to isolate the break since then, according to Eagle Mountain public information director Linda Peterson.

As of 2 p.m., crews had pinpointed the break and began to assess the situation. As of 5:30 p.m., water had been restored to most of the 2,500 homes that were affected. Repairs were expected to be finished by midnight, and some of the homes affected will not receive water until that time.

There is no damage or flooding to homes that have been reported, though there was some flooding in the road at Pony Express Parkway at the intersection at Smith Ranch Road, Peterson said.

Streets crews are working to clear water and ice from that intersection. Around 12:40 p.m., one lane opened in both directions on Pony Express Parkway. Drivers can still expect delays in the area and traffic is being diverted.
