KEARNS — Police are looking for two men who they say entered a home in Kearns with a knife, attacked a homeowner and fled.

About 8 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to a home near 5100 South and Lewis Clark Drive (5420 West), where they say a man identified as Cameron Snyder was at home with his 2-year-old daughter. At some point, Snyder got up to turn off the TV and heard his door alarm chirp.

Snyder said he went to check it out and saw two men who had entered through a sliding glass door at the back of the house.

"I came around the corner. There, out of the corner of my eye, I saw the one guy book it down the stairs. Then I went after the guy at the back door, and he's the one who had the knife," Snyder said.

One of the intruders immediately fled upon seeing Snyder, but the other intruder, holding a knife, stayed, according to Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell.

An altercation ensued, and Snyder received cuts on his arms and neck.

"Thankfully, they were superficial, not requiring any medical attention," Bell said.

Eventually, the man with the knife fled the house and left on foot. It appears Snyder's 2-year-old daughter didn't see the altercation, the lieutenant said.

Snyder described the man with the knife as dark-skinned, wearing jeans and a black hoodie with no logos on it. The other intruder was a man, but other descriptive details were unknown Sunday.

After bringing a K-9 to the home, police feel "fairly confident" that the two men left in a car, but it's unclear whether there were more people involved, he said.

"We think it was intended to just be a burglary, them thinking no one was home, and it turned into an aggravated burglary because the homeowner was in the house, and our suspect had a weapon, and there was a fight," he said.

The homeowner said this is the third time his house has been burglarized in the past year. Bell said the previous two incidents appear to have gone unreported but the homeowner said they did report the incidents.

Anyone who may have observed suspicious activity in the area is asked to call 801-743-7000.
