Streams: East, Timpview, Logan earn football semifinal wins

SALT LAKE CITY — East, Timpview and Logan each won semifinals in their respective classifications as the UHSAA high school football state playoffs continued Thursday at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Hunter Horsley completed 18-of-33 passes for 312 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions, and also ran for 94 yards and a score on 17 carries to lead Logan by Snow Canyon, 42-14 in the 3AA semifinal nightcap.

Spencer Corbett hauled in five passes for 168 yards and two scores, and also scored on an 84 yard punt return as part of 28-unanswered points to end the first half for Logan.

The Grizzlies (10-2) will face the winner of Friday night's Dixie-Tooele clash that follows the 5A semifinals.

In Class 4A, East will face three-time defending state champion Timpview in the championship game next week after both schools dispatched Springville and Highland, respectively, in the semifinals.

In the first Class 4A state semifinal, Johnnie Lang accounted for five touchdowns to help East roll past Springville (10-1), 42-14 for its third trip to the state championship since 2010.

Lang compiled 378 yards of total offense with four touchdowns on the ground and one through the air.

Kahi Neves threw four touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Thunderbirds (11-1) by Highland, 49-27 and set up the winner-take-all final. Neves finished with 266 yards, four touchdowns and an interception through the air, as well 97 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
