LAYTON — A Layton man who allegedly tried to duct tape and sexually assault his ex-girlfriend last week told her "you're done" when he began to attack her, according to charges filed Thursday.

Christopher Lee Monson, 27, is charged in 2nd District Court with two counts of first-degree felony forcible sodomy and one count each of first-degree felony rape and attempted aggravated kidnapping, a second-degree felony.

Charges say Monson attacked the woman, who Layton police say had recently broken up with him, immediately after she opened his front door to drop off a credit card at his home near 1000 North and Lindi Way (2925 West) on the night of Oct. 2.

Monson immediately began trying to duct tape the woman's wrists and "told the victim 'no one else is going to have you. … If I can't have you, no one else is going to have you,'" charging documents state.

The woman continued to struggle against Monson, who tried to take her upstairs to his bedroom so he could "fulfill a fantasy he had of tying her up and having sexual intercourse with her," according to the charges.

Monson was unsuccessful in getting the woman upstairs, but he forcibly took her clothes off and performed a sex act on her against her will, charges state. He allegedly continued trying to subdue her with duct tape during the struggle.

After about 15 or 20 minutes, the woman convinced Monson to let her leave the home to check on an infant she left in the vehicle while dropping off the credit card, police said. Monson reportedly misled her into thinking he would not be home when she came by. The two recently lived together.

The woman drove away from the home wearing only a blanket and called police after she got a couple of blocks away, according to investigators. Officers who responded to Monson's home reported he had swallowed pills in an attempt to kill himself. He was treated at a nearby hospital and later booked into jail. The woman survived the ordeal with only minor injuries.

Officers found "crumpled up duct tape" and the woman's clothing in Monson's home, charging documents state. The officers also said they found a knife and rope in his upstairs bedroom.

What's next?
Monson will make his initial court appearance Friday in Farmington's 2nd District Court.

Monson texted his ex-girlfriend after she fled and told her he should have used "his knife on her," according to the charges.

Monson also allegedly had sex with the victim against her will the day before the attack and attempted kidnapping.

A search of Utah court records shows a woman filed for a protective order against Monson on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless driving in 2008 and was found guilty of a traffic signal violation in 2012 after a bench trial. Monson has no other criminal history in Utah, outside of minor traffic violations.
