THE GRIDIRON — There have been 7-foot athletes in other sports before, namely basketball. In today's roundup of sports items trending on the Internet, we found a defensive lineman who has passed the 7-foot mark — and he's still a teenager.

Here are a few of our favorite moments from the past week.

California prep lineman may be biggest high school football player ever

John Krahn of King High in Riverside, California, surpassed the 6-foot mark in sixth grade.

In his senior year of high school, Krahn stands at 7 feet, 440 pounds — and he's not just a basketball player, but a standout defensive lineman in California's Inland Empire. He's played on the varsity team at King since his sophomore year, when he was "only" 6 foot 8 inches and 330 pounds.

For a comparison, that's roughly the same size as professional wrestler The Big Show.

No word on Krahn's recruitment, or what his future holds in college. But he'd fit right in with recent BYU recruit Motekiai Langi, the recent 6-foot-7, 410-pound signing from Tonga who is currently serving a two-year church mission in Phoenix.

#MACtion hits the AAC

It's a time-honored college football tradition: when the midseason hits, the Mid-American Conference takes center stage with Tuesday night games on ESPN that are known as much for their high-scoring, low-defense efforts as their wild wins and big upsets. The games are so popular, they've even spawned a hashtag: #MACtion.

On Thursday night, #MACtion came early — courtesy of Memphis, Cincinnati and the American Athletic Conference.

Memphis won a shootout in a game that featured more than 1,300 total yards, 85 points and 11 lead changes before scoring with 53 seconds left to knock off the Bearcats, 53-46. The Tigers opened the season at 4-0 for the first time since 1961.

And there was no one more excited than this Memphis student.

In a game with so much offense, Cincinnati had its moments, too. Bearcat backup quarterback Hayden Moore finished with 557 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions on 31-of-53 passing.

Let the #AACtion begin.

Midnight Cuteness

A month into the college football season, and college basketball is on the verge of starting as well.

Northeastern hoops' student section, though, may have already won the Internet with its combination of cute puppy memes and schedule-introducing announcements

The Huskies open the season Nov. 13 against Boston University. That's right, it's the Terriers hosting the Huskies —or any dog lover's dream.
