LAYTON — Layton quarterback Tayler Katoa ran for three touchdowns, and recent Utah commit Julian Blackmon added two scores to help the Lancers snap a six-game losing streak to rival Northridge, 47-27, for its first 3-0 start since 1987.

Katoa finished with 116 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns to go along with 276 yards passing and a score for the Lancers (3-0), and he had 33 yards and a touchdown on two carries and 96 yards and a score on two catches.

"It means so much, just coming out with my team. We've been working hard," Blackmon said. "It's been tough, not having so many winning seasons. But we feel really confident going into region now that we got the W."

Katoa opened the scoring in the first quarter with a six-yard touchdown run, but the Knights (2-1) answered right back with Jrue Perkins' 85-yard TD strike to Kyzer Armenderiz to tie the game at 7-7. Blackmon gave the Lancers a 14-7 lead after one quarter by taking a pass from Katoa 80 yards for the touchdown.

Layton put together three straight scoring drives with Keoni Larsen's five-yard TD scamper, Max Garrett's 32-yard field goal and Katoa's second rushing touchdown of 21 yards before Perkins began to rally Northridge with a one-yard TD run and a 35-yard scoring strike to Ethan Udy.

But Layton put the game away with 17 points in the fourth quarter, including an 18-yard touchdown run by Blackmon and five-yard TD scamper by Katoa to finish off the win.

"It feels good," Katoa said. "It's our city."
