Utah has become one of the best kept secrets in the West for great food. Burgers, in particular, are a mastered art by many local restaurants. And since KSL Local launched the [4th annual A-list contest](<http://www.ksl.com/ad_logger/ad_logger.php?location=http://local.ksl.com/alist& sponsor=local>) for local businesses this week, we thought it appropriate to list some of the nominees from the 'Best Burger' category.

JCW's

From South Jordan to Utah Valley, JCW's offers 15 different menu items, each packed with 1/3 pound of AAA ground chuck and fresh ingredients. JCW's was started by Chris and Clay Williams, "The Burger Boys," in American Fork in 1998, with an emphasis on quality food and friendly service. Now, JCW's has grown to four locations serving up juicy burgers and delectably thick shakes, all for reasonable prices. If you're in need of a great burger at a good price, without the long wait, JCW's is a solid option.

Woody's Drive-In

One of the few classically styled drive-in restaurants still around, Woody's Drive-In has become a staple in the Salt Lake valley since 1989. For those looking for a moderately priced place to revisit yesteryear, Woody's Drive-In is it. From the burgers and homemade fries to the variety of sides and shakes, Woody's Drive-In offers a unique experience compared to modern burger places.

Crown Burgers

Anyone driving through Salt Lake City has, at some point, probably seen (and visited) Crown Burgers. Started in 1978 by Rula and John Katzourakis and Nick Katsanevas, Crown Burgers has expanded to seven locations statewide. Its famous "Crown Burger" (a quarter pound char-broiled pattie with the usual fixings and a hefty portion of hot pastrami on top) is a burger experience unlike any other. Come hungry.

Cliff House Gastro Pub

For those looking for an uncommon dining experience, Cliff House Gastro Pub fits the bill. With live music, metropolitan decor and sweeping views of the valley, Cliff House Gastro Pub is a great escape. While the number of options for burgers may be smaller than other nominees listed here, the quality and size of its popular Big D, Cliff House, and Double Beef burgers more than make up for it.

From Scratch

Exploding in popularity in recent years, and winner of the 2014 Best of State Local Burger award, From Scratch is a contender to be reckoned with. Priding itself for using "from scratch" ingredients and locally sourced foods, From Scratch has been heavily frequented since day one. Located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City behind the Wells Fargo Building, its award-winning burgers are on the pricey end of the nominee spectrum, but are worth checking out next time you're in the mood for something "from scratch".

Lucky 13

Located just west of Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Lucky 13's presence has become a culturally recognized destination for delicious, unique, made-from-scratch burgers. While Lucky 13 is a bar for those over 21, many non-drinkers also flock to the smell of house-smoked bacon, garlic fries and a menu featuring unique burgers such as "The Breath Enhancer," "The Celestial Burger," and "The Fungus Amongus." While there is usually a wait to be seated (even during the week), a trip down 1300 South has never been more worth it.
