PAYSON — Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon when a pickup truck and a school bus collided, officials said.

The vehicles collided head-on at Arrowhead Trail Road around 2:30 p.m. The road was then shut down, according to Payson police Lt. Bill Wright.

Christopher Jay Cook, 22, of Payson, and Makia Love Boyd, 18, of Lehi, were both in the truck and were killed in the crash. Boyd would have turned 19 on Wednesday, Wright said.

Colton Zobel, 21, and Alexandria Johnson, 20, both of Payson, were also in the truck and were transported to Mountain View Hospital for serious injuries, Wright said.

Lorrie Hone, 49, was the only occupant of the bus and was on her way to pick up kids from school. Another bus was following behind and was undamaged, Wright said.

A Nebo School District spokesman confirmed that Hone was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

No children were involved in the crash. Both vehicles sustained quite a bit of damage, Wright said.

This situation is under investigation, but preliminary information indicates the bus driver is not at fault, Wright said.
