CRYSTAL HOT SPRINGS — Box Elder County paramedics and deputies were dispatched on report of a possible drowning Wednesday evening at around 10 p.m.

"The family was getting out of the pool and they lost contact with [their] child for probably less than a minute," Chief Deputy Dale Ward said.

First responders arrived to find the boy crying and unharmed. Ward said the actions the parents and other witnesses took immediately after seeing the child unconscious in the pool likely saved his life.

"They got the child out of the water, and a lifeguard there at Crystal Hot Springs checked for vitals," Ward said, explaining that the boy still had a pulse. "[The lifeguard] did three quick rescue breaths, and [the boy] started to spit up some water and started to cry."

The boy was taken to Brigham City Community Hospital as a precaution, but was otherwise expected to recover unharmed.

While a quick response led to a happy ending, Ward said the incident also shows just how vulnerable children can be around water.

"You have to be vigilant everyday," the chief said. "They can disappear in an instant."
