CLINTON — Deputies are warning residents to lock up their homes and any valuable belongings after dozens of burglaries committed by a single man in Davis County.
David Theobald, 38, was pulled over in Montana and found with stolen credit cards along with a multitude of merchandise stolen from dozens of homes, deputies said. Theobald stole most of the items in a concentrated area near West Point and Clinton, according to Sgt. DeeAnn Servey of the Davis County Sheriff's Office. Deputies estimate he burglarized more than 60 locations, good for over two truckloads of merchandise.
But like many such situations, Theobald, who was on parole for a similar previous crime, didn't actually break in anywhere, Servey said.
"They park, and they just start checking doorknobs, or checking locks, checking RVs," said Servey.
Theobald is back in custody, but police are warning homeowners to be more careful in locking up prized belongings. They are also asking anyone who believes they may have had items stolen by Theobald to contact their local law enforcement agency.
