ROOSEVELT — A Roosevelt police officer's patrol vehicle and his personal pickup truck were destroyed by fire last week.

Firefighters were called to the officer's home Tuesday at about 12:30 p.m., Assistant Roosevelt Fire Chief Nathan Goodrich said. When they arrived, the officer's marked sport-utility vehicle was engulfed in flames that were spreading to his personal truck.

Firefighters found jumper cables strung between the patrol SUV and the officer's truck, Goodrich said. The vehicles were parked next to each other and their hoods were raised, he said.

"It looks like there was some arcing between the cables and the battery," Goodrich said, adding that both vehicles are expected to be a total loss.

There were several small detonations as the fire reached ammunition inside the patrol vehicle, but no one was hurt, Roosevelt Police Chief Rick Harrison said.
