BOUNTIFUL — Guitar players now have access to a "one-stop shop" for restringing their instrument, thanks to a local musician.

A compact kit, the ReString Theory, is an "all-in-one guitar care and maintenance system" that comes with every tool needed for the most basic level of guitar care, according to president and founder Aaron Jorgensen.

These tools will restring any string instrument, and the patent-pending case they come in will unfold to be a neck rest for it, which will prevent it from sliding and getting damaged.

Jorgensen said musicians can easily learn how to restring their instruments properly, but they don't have the right tools to do it. Since he hasn't seen a store that carries all the tools in one kit, he decided to make restringing a little simpler.

"So we wanted to kind of create a one-stop shop that gives them everything that they would need to do it, thus making the process much easier for musicians," Jorgensen said.

In his years working at Murphy's Guitar in Bountiful, he has seen a lot of people come in for help in restringing their instrument or they restring it badly, which leads to problems later.

"A lot of people just didn't really have the proper workspace, so they would end up kinda getting frustrated with the process of stringing," Jorgensen said.

The ReString Theory kit comes with a screen winder that helps a musician wind the strings around the posts more quickly, a set of wire cutters that cut old strings or excess wire and a set of Curt Mangan strings.

The website provides restringing tutorials, and the blog provides tips for good sets of strings and guitar setup and maintenance. In order to fit the needs of a traveling musician, the ReString Theory kit is designed to fit in most guitar cases.

On Aug. 1, Jorgensen launched a Kickstarter campaign* in hopes of raising $12,000 by the end of the month.

Anyone who pledges $25 will receive a kit. Those who pledge more will also receive different rewards such as T-shirts and "partner status," or shout-outs on social media. Anyone who pledges $500 will receive a customized embroidered kit along with exclusive offers and team member status, which leads to exclusive offers down the road.

Jorgensen said long-term, this kit will save musicians a lot of money.

"Instead of having to pay somebody else to do maintenance that should be done once every couple of months … they're able to do it themselves, which basically would only cost them the cost of a set of strings," Jorgensen said. "But also, from a standpoint of the playability of the guitar or being able to play the guitar, it's mostly just you're able to set up your instrument to play exactly the way that you want it to play."
